Desert is owner, co-founder, and leading artist at the Clayworks of Idyllwild Studio and Gallery. He completed a double major in painting and pottery at the University of Texas at El Paso. Later, he worked as a ceramic artist teaching at-risk youth in Boyle Heights for the BHLC, a community-based organization that partnered with Father Greg Boyle’s Homeboy Industries, 2003-2007. He worked as a program coordinator/assistant in literacy outreach throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District as an employee of Families in Schools. He’s currently serving on the Board of Directors at the Art Alliance of Idyllwild. Currently, he offers private and group pottery lessons in the picturesque village of Idyllwild, California.
Jill is co-founder, gallery manager, and contributing artist at Clayworks of Idyllwild Studio and Gallery. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Illustration & Graphic Design from the University of Kansas, and is a member of the Art Alliance of Idyllwild. Post-graduation, she spent time in advertising and marketing. Later, she pursued a love of writing, followed by a successful business in web design, online sales, copywriting, and finally editing services for academics and authors. Her love of clay began with studies alongside Clayworks potter, Desert Chavez. Together, they strive to bring their love of clay to Idyllwild.
Tom Bloom is a studio member at Clayworks of Idyllwild Studio & Gallery. He’s a local Idyllwild house painter with a passion for clay. He’s a lifelong resident of Idyllwild who happened to inherit a pottery wheel from his father. He brings his skills as a painter to his work through floral themes of which he dedicates to his wife.
